Roll trailer. What is it and what is it used for?
Roll trailer (“mafi”, RT) is a mobile platform on wheels (trailer), used for transportation of heavy / oversized and general cargo with further loading on ferry by rolling. There are twenty five 40-foot roll trailers in our fleet.
Dimensions of 40-foot roll trailers: 12.35 m (length) x 2.6 m (width) x 0.8 m (height). Maximum dimensions of cargo accepted for transportation on a 40-foot roll trailer: weight – up to 75 tons; length – up to 15 m; width – up to 4.5 m; height – up to 4 m.
Benefits of using roll trailers
- Reducing the cost of warehouse operations (cargo is placed and secured on a roll trailer long before the ship arrives at the port, loading and unloading occur on the territory of the port).
- Minimizing the risks of cargo damage (the roll trailer is loaded onto the vessel with the help of a tractor truck, which is safe, fast and neat. In addition, it greatly facilitates the task of placing cargo in the vessel’s hold; certified modern fastening materials and technologies).
- You can transport containers on roll trailers: either one 40-foot or two 20-foot containers. You can carry more weight at a time than on a car site. The maximum cargo weight is 75 tons.
- Savings on delivery times, due to the reduction of time for loading and unloading (handling operations).
- Save time on paperwork (compared with shipments by rail and road).
- Cargo can be transported as a separate unit – there is no need to use a container for transportation.
- Line service with predictable shipping times and transit times (up to 5 ferry trips per month, transition time – 38-40 hours).
- The ability to control the work of several roll trailers at once by one operator allows you to reduce customer costs for staff work.
- On a roll trailer a cargo is located below the deck, which guarantees safety in transit from the effects of the external environment.
